Research boundary

This article explains concepts, interfaces, governance, and public research questions. It intentionally excludes private implementation details, personal information, operational secrets, and security-sensitive mechanisms. Organism language is architectural metaphor.

Different kinds of memory

A mature architecture distinguishes working memory, episodic memory, semantic memory, procedural memory, and canonical records. These categories may share storage, but they have different purposes and governance requirements.

Memory is not simply a larger context window. It is a governed information system that selects context based on identity, task relevance, recency, source quality, and permission.

Memory is not evidence

Remembered context and current evidence are different. A stored statement may have been true when recorded but no longer be current. A remembered preference may be useful for personalization but is not proof of an external fact.

Provenance allows the organism to rank and challenge its own memory: where it came from, when it was recorded, who approved it, what scope it belongs to, and whether it has been superseded.

Forgetting is a feature

Some information should expire because it is temporary, sensitive, superseded, or no longer relevant. The goal is not maximum memory. The goal is useful memory with minimum unnecessary exposure.
